There are several important things to consider when creating an email newsletter. If you've read my previous posts, you probably won't be surprised when I mention the first and most important: audience.
Knowing your audience will allow you to craft a newsletter that will resonate through words AND visuals. For example, did you know that women prefer softer tinted colors while men prefer bolder shades? Did you know that color blindness is more common among men than women? Knowing your audience will always be the most important factor before using any method of communication.
Once you know your audience you can create content they will find valuable and word it appropriately. Good subject lines, opening text, clean designs, and use of white space will allow your audience to journey easily through your message, toward your intended result.
This is where a call to action comes in. Every communication is intended to promote a response. Craft your message and visuals to lead your audience toward that response or action. Remember that brevity is your friend. So is humility. Ask your audience for feedback every so often. There may be important changes you need to make to keep them engaged in your newsletters.
